The temperature inside the coach may vary during the journey: it can be sweltering at a stop, but cool under the air conditioning. Therefore, the best approach for a long journey is to wear several light layers rather than one very warm item.

    Basic outfit

Choose a T-shirt or long-sleeved top made from a fabric that feels comfortable against the skin, loose-fitting trousers and a zip-up jacket. Your clothes shouldn’t be too tight around your stomach or legs. It’s best to leave items that crease easily or have lots of metal parts in your suitcase.

    Footwear and accessories

Your shoes should be easy to take off but stay securely on your feet whilst walking. Take some clean, warm socks. A scarf or kerchief will protect you from draughts, and a compact raincoat will come in handy during a connecting flight.

Take the season and border controls into account

In winter, your outerwear shouldn’t take up half the seat: fold it neatly or check where you can store it. In summer, don’t rely solely on the heat outside — it can be chilly inside the cabin. Keep your documents in an easily accessible pocket or organiser in case of a check.

What to keep close at hand

Keep a jumper, socks and a raincoat in your hand luggage, rather than in the luggage compartment. For more details on what to take with you on the journey, read the article on hand luggage on the bus. Add water and a snack from the list of essentials for a long journey.
