Bus regulations and customs regulations are not the same thing. An item may be allowed in the luggage compartment but still be prohibited from being brought into the country or require declaration. Restrictions depend on the route and the country.

What to check particularly carefully
- products of animal origin;
- plants, seeds, fruit and vegetables;
- large quantities of medicines or controlled substances;
- alcohol and tobacco products;
- weapons, ammunition and dangerous items;
- cultural artefacts;
- goods, cash or other valuables exceeding the established limits.
Do not rely on other people’s experiences
The phrase ‘they let me through last time’ does not confirm that the goods are legal to carry. Lists and quantity limits are subject to change. Check them on the customs websites of the countries you are leaving and entering.

What to do if in doubt
Before travelling, contact the customs service or your carrier, within the scope of their remit. If an item needs to be declared, do not conceal it. Official information from Ukraine is available on the State Customs Service website.
To prepare, read the guide on hand luggage, the rules for carrying luggage and the article on crossing the border by coach.
