In Segovia, it is easy to plan a straightforward route between the three main landmarks: the aqueduct, the cathedral and the Alcázar. However, the route is not flat, and returning to your starting point also takes some time. Once you’ve got off the bus, start at the open square near the aqueduct so you can get your bearings at your leisure.
Where to start your walk
The Roman aqueduct is best viewed from various distances. From below, you can really appreciate the height of the arches, whilst from the neighbouring streets you can see how they integrate with the city’s architecture. Don’t limit yourself to a single shot directly opposite the structure: a short walk around it helps you appreciate its proportions.
How to continue your route
From the central districts, head towards the cathedral, and save the Alcázar as the grand finale. The castle stands on the edge of a rocky outcrop; a tour inside and a walk around it are two separate activities. On a short visit, choose one interior to prioritise.
