Before buying a ticket to Budapest, make a note of the exact station the journey is to. A large city may have several railway hubs, so the name of the capital alone does not determine your onward journey within the city.
Checking the route for a specific date
Check the available timetable for your date with Ukrainian Railways (UZ) and, if necessary, with the Hungarian operator. Check the local times and whether there are any changes. For overnight journeys, check the type of seat and the documents required for boarding. Do not assume that the previous seasonal timetable remains unchanged.
Arrival and contingency plan
If you’re flying on from there, check the separate journey to your destination airport and allow sufficient time. If you’re staying in the city, arrange for early check-in or luggage collection. Ensure your phone has offline access to your ticket and the addresses you’ll need before crossing the border.
What to have ready before departure
Have your full tickets, station addresses and transport operators’ contact details ready offline. Check availability, prices and times using the latest search results: this guide is not a timetable. You’ll need to check your eligibility to cross the border separately, based on your own documents and circumstances.
