No train tickets available: five checks before changing the plan

If the search doesn’t show any seats, it’s useful to distinguish between two situations: either the flight you’re looking for isn’t listed at all, or the flight is listed but no seats are available. Next, check the options one by one so you don’t waste all your time constantly refreshing a single page.

When a search doesn’t show any seats, it’s useful to distinguish between two scenarios: either the flight you’re looking for isn’t listed at all, or the flight is listed but no seats are available. Next, check the options one by one so you don’t waste all your time constantly refreshing a single page.

Broaden your search without losing sight of the logic

First, check the stations and the booking period. Then compare alternative times, acceptable carriage classes and neighbouring dates. If you’re considering a different station or destination city, factor in the extra journey time straight away. A cheaper available ticket won’t help if there’s no realistic way to reach your final destination afterwards.

A change of train is a separate decision

Don’t buy the first leg of your journey just because it’s available, until you’ve checked the onward journey. Make a note of both train numbers, stations and the time between them. For separate tickets, check the consequences of the first journey being delayed. Official monitoring can simplify your search, but does not guarantee that seats will become available before your deadline.
