When booking a train ticket for a relative or colleague, ensure you specify the payer and the passenger separately. The person paying for the booking may not necessarily be travelling, so it is particularly important not to enter your own name in the passenger field.
Check the details before selecting a carriage
Ask for the exact spelling of the name as it appears on their ID, the required date, stations and any seat restrictions. Do not assume whether an upper berth or a departure after midnight is suitable. If a concession is being used, check that the passenger has the relevant confirmation. Only send personal data via an agreed private channel.
Don’t just pass on the code
Send the full ticket and a brief explanation: travel date, station, train, carriage, seat. Ask the recipient to open the document and check the name. Agree on who will monitor any changes and contact the seller if the journey is cancelled. This is important when the booking remains in your account but the passenger does not have access to it.
